How Are We @ EVO?

How do you keep 45+kids engaged for 3-4 hours a day? You STREAM! We engage our youth in activities that introduce and teach them Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math & Movement. When you visit, you’ll hear Mr. Steve excitedly reading aloud “Wayside School is Falling Down” to a group of attentive 3rd- 5th graders hanging onto his every word and making predictions about what is going to happen next. You’ll also see Ms. Janel with a group of Pre K & Kindergarten students making their own play dough out of items you can find in your kitchen cupboards. If you were to peek over to Mr. Assegid’s group, you’ll see a group of 1st and 2nd graders enhancing their thinking skills as well as learning geometry through origami. Follow us on FB to see other ways we STREAM here at EVO!

Ms. Becky has been with EVO for a few years now. She serves in a number of roles including helping students with homework, assuring they make it to and from school safely, and keeping us stocked with tasty and nutritious meals and snacks.

Mr. Ian joined our team this fall through KEYS Service Corps. He is a 2016 graduate of James Madison University with a degree in International Affairs. He is a competitive swimmer who enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and reading. Mr. Ian works alongside Ms. Janel with the PreK and Kindergarten students.

We met Ms. Janel when she came to us as a 2012 Summer Intern from Chicago. She later joined our team full time in 2014 where she serves as one of the best PreK-K leaders we have ever experienced. She hopes to make teaching Kindergarten students a full time career in the near future.

Mr. Kevin started as a child who sat where your child/children now sit, as an enrolled student into EVO’s programs. He has grown up with us and served with us for many years. He leads the students in songs and worship during Kid’s Chapel and motivates them during Movement & Exercise. Kevin loves to teach and play tennis. He also plays the drums for Seeds of Hope Church.

Ms. Maggie, a student at the University of Pittsburgh learned about EVO through our partnership with the Federal Work Study Program at PITT. Maggie continued with us through the summer as our reading teacher during Summer Day Camp 2016. She now serves alongside Mr. Assegid, leading our 1st & 2nd Graders. Maggie is also currently serving at EVO through KEYS Service Corps.

Mr. Steve has been serving at EVO for 2 years now after moving to Pittsburgh from Chicago. He is the lead teacher for the 3rd-5th Graders. He enjoys reading, biking around the city, and listening to music.
